Glass Installation

When constructing or renovating a building, Glass Installation functions as an engineered system rather than a decorative finish. As a result, proper installation directly affects thermal efficiency, occupant comfort, safety, and code compliance. At Glass Project Solutions Ltd., we provide precision glass installation services for residential, commercial, and institutional projects across Canada, focusing strictly on installation—not glass supply.

Because materials are often owner- or architect-supplied, our team works closely with builders, project managers, and design professionals to ensure each glass unit is installed exactly as specified. From coordination through final placement, every step is managed to protect performance and visual accuracy. Consequently, installed systems deliver long-term durability and clean architectural results.

When installed correctly, high-performance glass systems can reduce heating and cooling energy use by up to 25–30%. Therefore, we follow the CAN/CSA A440.4 installation standard in conjunction with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS). By adhering to these requirements, we help ensure your project meets both local and provincial regulations while minimizing risks such as air leakage or condensation.

If you’re looking for professional Glass Installation services using your supplied materials, our team is ready to assist. Visit glassprojectsolutions.ca to request a free consultation or a customized estimate. Ultimately, precise installation makes the difference between average performance and lasting results.

Our Glass Installation services cover a wide range of storefront systems designed for strength, visibility, and long-term performance. Because clients often supply their own materials, we focus exclusively on precise installation that aligns with architectural intent, building codes, and daily operational demands.

Storefront Windows & Doors

A successful storefront begins with accurate installation. Therefore, we install framed and frameless storefront glass systems that maximize visibility while supporting structural requirements. Each installation is coordinated to suit the building layout, brand presentation, and foot traffic flow. As a result, storefronts remain visually clean, durable, and code-compliant.

So why not hire Glass Project Solutions Ltd, a premier installation company? We have a team of the best installers with years of experience who will take care of everything for you from start to finish, so all you have to do is sit back and relax!

Frameless Storefronts

Frameless storefront systems deliver a modern, uninterrupted appearance. For this reason, precise alignment and anchoring are critical during Glass Installation. Our team ensures clean transitions, stable support, and proper sealing so the system performs reliably while maintaining a minimal visual profile.

Aluminum Storefronts

Aluminum-framed storefronts combine strength with low maintenance. During installation, frames are carefully set to support large glass panels while maintaining structural integrity. In addition, anodized or powder-coated finishes are protected throughout the process, ensuring long-lasting performance and a refined appearance.

Wood & Glass Storefronts

Wood and glass storefronts require careful coordination to balance warmth with durability. Therefore, our Glass Installation process accounts for material movement, structural support, and finish protection. When aluminum-clad or engineered wood systems are used, proper installation helps preserve both visual appeal and longevity.

Performance Metrics and Testing

What Matters for Glass Installation

Understanding glazing performance is essential for proper Glass Installation, especially when materials are client-supplied. Therefore, our installation process accounts for verified performance ratings to ensure systems perform as intended once installed. The following

ParameterImportance/Focus
U‑factor

Indicates the rate of heat transfer through the window assembly. Because lower values mean better insulation, correct installation is critical to preserve rated thermal performance and prevent heat loss at the perimeter.

Visible Transmittance (VT)Measures how much daylight passes through the glass. As a result, accurate placement and clean detailing help maintain expected daylighting levels without visual distortion.
Design PressureDefines resistance to positive and negative wind loads, measured in Pascals. Therefore, anchoring methods and support systems must match the project’s wind exposure requirements to maintain structural integrity.
Air InfiltrationRepresents air leakage through the assembly. Since Canadian codes require a minimum A2 rating, precise sealing and alignment during Glass Installation are essential to achieve airtight performance.
Performance ClassIdentifies suitability based on building type and height (R, LC, CW, AW). Consequently, installation methods are adjusted to align with the specified class and applicable code requirements.

Technical Features of Our
Glass Installation Procedures

Opening Preparation

Before Glass Installation begins, rough openings are checked for plumb, level, and square conditions. Because even minor deviations can lead to racking or leakage, corrections are addressed immediately. In addition, shims are placed beneath sill framing to distribute loads evenly while maintaining proper drainage slope. As a result, the opening supports long-term performance from day one.

Moisture Management

To control water movement, a continuous sill pan or sub-sill flashing is installed. Furthermore, upturned end dams prevent lateral water migration. Self-adhered membranes are then layered in shingle fashion and integrated with air and water barriers. Consequently, moisture exits the assembly as designed rather than becoming trapped.

Air and Vapour Sealing

Air and vapour control relies on continuity. Therefore, gaskets, backer rods, and compatible sealants are installed to create tight transitions between frames and wall assemblies. At the same time, joints are designed to accommodate building movement. This approach ensures the Glass Installation performs consistently across seasonal changes.

Anchoring and Shimming

Anchoring methods are selected based on verified design loads. Depending on wall construction, screws, embeds, or brackets are used and spaced correctly. Since CAN/CSA A440.4 allows flexibility, shimming techniques are adapted to work with insulation and sheathing systems. As a result, structural loads are transferred safely without distortion.

Insulation Integration

At slab edges and spandrel zones, thermal breaks are incorporated to reduce condensation risk. Moreover, insulation is placed around frames without compression to preserve its effectiveness. For window wall systems, slab edge covers are coordinated to conceal insulation while maintaining vapour barrier continuity.

Quality Verification

When specified, field water penetration and air leakage testing is performed to confirm system performance. In line with A440.4 and NAFS expectations, testing procedures align with rated values. Additionally, product labels remain in place until inspections are complete. Therefore, compliance and traceability remain intact throughout the project.

Our Compliance with
Building Codes & Standards

NBCC Parts and Glazing Requirements

The NBCC divides building codes into Part 9 (small buildings without a design professional) and Part 3 (large buildings requiring professional design). For Part 9 residential buildings, products must be tested and labelled to NAFS with Canadian Supplement A440S1‐09. For custom or site-built glazing outside NAFS scope (e.g., curtain walls), designers must meet the NBCC Part 5 requirements using engineered calculations and testing.

NAFS Classifications and Performance Grades

NAFS classification includes four performance classes: R (residential), LC (light commercial), CW (commercial), and AW (architectural). These classes correspond to building type, height, and expected loads. Each class has associated performance grades (PG15 to PG100), measured in increments of 240 Pa, denoting design pressure and mandatory auxiliary tests for air and water leakage. In Canada, water and air performance are specified separately from PG rating, allowing designers to demand higher levels of airtightness or watertightness for any performance grade.

Site Conditions and Design Considerations

Selecting glazing that meets local conditions requires understanding wind exposure, terrain, and height. The NBCC identifies two terrain categories: One is closed terrain (protected by other buildings or trees), and the other is open terrain (exposed to wind over water or open fields). The Fenestration Canada calculator helps determine the required design pressure, water test pressure, and air rating based on these factors. Our team can perform these calculations for you and select or engineer products accordingly.
